Season's Greetings!
As our third year of operation comes to a close, Autismazing.org would like to take a moment to share some of our organization’s highlights of 2019.
We are a small, but dedicated nonprofit with a part-time volunteer board made up of passionate advocates for young autistic adults. Even with our time-challenged schedules and limited funds, we were able to achieve the following goals:
- Awarding two micro-grants totaling $1,600 to two young autistic students who used these grants to purchase Chromebooks and subscriptions to K-12 online learning to supplement their education.
- Awarding a $300 scholarship for BoneYard Robotics, a robotics competition team who is 48% neurodiverse, for a team member who needs financial support to participate.
- Holding our first inclusive community event called “Ice Cream for Breakfast” in August. This event raised awareness about autism and our organization's mission. It was an event that was well received by the 150+ attendees, volunteers and sponsors.
- Helping an autistic high school graduate attend a two-year transitions program at a local community college. She is flourishing in this program and is preparing for her next steps toward her future goals.
- Publishing/Sharing regular social media posts to amplify awareness, understanding and acceptance of autistic persons; to share helpful information and resources with autistic individuals and their families; and to promote dialogue around needs, issues and opportunities.
Autismazing.org will continue to grow in 2020 with your support. There is still much to accomplish to improve employment, education and entrepreneurial opportunities for autistic persons transitioning into adulthood.
Thank you for supporting people on the autism spectrum. Without their contribution, our society does not achieve its true potential.
